Movie Review - Tucker & Dale vs Evil

While not perfect, this film is a fun ride. It parody's the sub-genre of horror films in which college kids get lost in the woods and get attacked by crazed mad men. The film is both a comedy and horror film, but succeeds more so in the comedy, which it was intended to do. It can be funny at times, mainly due to the two main leads acting. The generic, snobbish college kids are about as good at their roles as they would be in an actual horror film. The main one, Chad though who plays the villain is pretty good in his demented role, as is the only real good person of the group, Alie, the one that the two red neck friends save. The film makes fun of the genre, but falters by falling into the sappy happy ending of other genres. Besides that the gore is great, and the dialog is funny enough. This is an solid attempt that usually succeeds.

The Verdict - An all around decent parody of the horror genre. - **1/2

Movie Review - Capote

This film is about the famed author Truman Capote. It is a biographical film of the time in his life where he researched and wrote his nonfiction novel In Cold Blood. The film is held together beautifully by Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance as the title character, an openly gay southern writer. You really should like Capote as he is an ass with many personality flaws. But the performance is so fantastic. That would have to be the best part of the film. Every thing else is par for the course. Nothing too bad, nothing great. Also, one of the killers played by Clifton Collins, Jr. does a great job in his role. All in all, the film is a solid film that is really upped due to the main performance.

The Verdict - A solid biopic. - ***

Movie Review - Mystic River

Mystic River is about the investigation into the killing of a young woman. Behind that is the story of three friends, one of whom was the father of the girl that was murdered. The film has one of the best ensemble casts I have ever seen. Every one is top notch here. The covers a wide range of people involved and delves into the past of the three friends, particularly a moment that took place when they were younger when one of them was abducted by two rapists and was molested. The story is intriguing with multiple twists. In the end, it reminded me a bit of a noir film with the wife of the man who's daughter was killed whispering in his ear how he could control the town after having killed the supposed murderer earlier. I have almost no qualms with this film (if that's the right word for this sentence).

The Verdict - A fantastic drama film. - ***1/2

Random Thoughts on Unimportant Stuff (Everything)

Project X looks horrible.
Lindsy Lohan is a mess. You know that. Why am I saying that? I'm tired of her hanging on to her fame.
How messed up will Snooki's kid be? I'm asking you people. That's a question. I think she will be better looking than her mum, but that's not saying much. Perhaps she will take her mothers example as something not to do.
Who was Andrew Breitbart?
John Carter looks sweet.
As does The Avengers.
Awake (the tv show) looks decent, has potential.
I have been trying to make all of my fingernails even recently. I do find it very hard to cut them equally.
I need to try to try working out again.
I just finished The Stranger and the ending reminded me of Grendel. Any one?
The character in the book reminds me of myself a bit, which is not good. After having seen the Big Lebowsky, I too have been slowly falling into a sense of apathy to a lot of things.
I have study hall first period. There is mix of people in the study hall. The Asian girl, the emoish looking girl, the Asian lad, the black kid, the mentally deficient girl. You get the point, a wide range of people. There are only so many times you can get enjoyment out of staring at the flattened ass of the emo girl due to her sitting. The study hall is a total bore. Most of the time I will stare at the lunchroom door. Occasionally, one of the janitors will put on the TV's and turn up the volume. This is nice so I can listen to the same soft rock and classic rock songs. I have heard American Pie so many times now. It's like the Breakfast club but with out the potential for any life changing interactions. When the occasional person walks by, I stare right into there eyes, never breaking contact. I do this because there is an entire window wall between me and them. Nothing will come of my creepiness. No confrontation. I would never stare at a person eye to eye if there was nothing between us. Before the period, my brother will sit with me and ridicule me for anything and everything, and I give it right back to him. Some days of the week I will get a pass to go to the library instead of staying in study hall. The library is barren in school during first period with the same half a dozen students being there. Mots of the time I hear the annoying cackling of the library trolls. I spend half my time in the library surfing the web. The other half I spend wondering how I could bypass the restrictions on the internet at the school, knowing full well that I will never be able to do that.
I'm tired of it all. The constant meaninglessness of this senior year.
Recently I have fallen for the band Tokio Hotel. I know, a little late to the party. Also, I know, a little weird considering they are German heartthrobs (more so the lead Bill). Movie Review - Ed Wood

I have seen some of Ed Wood's films and have read a bit up on him. This man led a very interesting life. He is known now as the worst director in history. Unlike some horrible films, his films have a certain charm that are able to entertain you even when you are repulsed by how bad they are. Johny Depp plays Ed Wood. But the real star here is Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi. I have seen a bunch of films starring Lugosi, and let me just say, he totally embodies Bela Lugosi. The film is very silly, but funny, which is important. The cast is a bunch of crazy, weird characters. It's in black and white and looks good too. Overall, this was an enjoyable film.

The Verdict - A good biopic of a very interesting story. - ***

Main Card

Middleweight bout: Court McGee vs. Constantinos Philippou

Philippou defeated McGee via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). - This was a fairly bland fight. Court McGee couldn't get the fight to the ground since Constantinos has some great strength. Constantinos was able to out point McGee. Court has look fairly stiff throughout the fight. I think he needs to re-evaluate his fighting style or else he will never progress past his mid level in the UFC.

Flyweight bout: Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall

Johnson and McCall fought to a majority draw (29-28, 29-29, 28-28). The fight was initially incorrectly scored as a majority decision win (29-28, 29-29, 29-28) for Johnson. - A lot of controversy with this fight. It was originally scored as a win for Johnson, but many fans thought McCall won, including me. I would give Ian rounds 1 and 3 while Johnson would get round 2. It turns out that the scores were added incorrectly, which would have scored the fight a draw which would have led to a sudden death round to decide a winner. Now the two will have to fight again to decide a winner to fight Benavidez.

Flyweight bout: Joseph Benavidez vs. Yasuhiro Urushitani

Benavidez defeated Urushitani via TKO (punches) at 0:11 of round 2. - Yasuhiro looked decent at first but wilted once the fight went to the ground at the end of the first. He survived impressively that round but couldn't do the same for the second as he was knocked out. Yasuhiro will stay around the division for a bit, but should train in the US to really up his game. Benavidez looked great and I think he will win, whoever ends up fighting him.

Welterweight bout: Thiago Alves vs. Martin Kampmann

Kampmann defeated Alves via submission (guillotine choke) at 4:12 of round 3. - Thiago looked great for the majority of the fight. He out struck Kampmann and defended against his take downs. Kampmann though pulled a Tim Boetsch (as they say now) and came back with a stunning submission win.

Movie Review - Open Your Eyes

Open Your Eyes is a generally better movie compared to its English remake, Vanilla Sky. It tightens up the story and moves along quicker without any of the seemingly unnecessary bits and pieces from its remake.The film has decent enough acting with nobody really standing out. The makeup of the main character after the car crash is a little out there, even a bit cartoony compared to the more realistic make up of the remake. The music is much different compared to the remake. It's more orchestral which I think worked on par with the light rock music. The cinematography is pretty good. As I said before, this is a marginally better version than the remake. If you were to see one of the two, definitely see this one.

The Verdict - A decent film about lucid dreaming. - **1/2

UFC 144: Edgar vs. Henderson: Review

Preliminary Card (FX)

Bantamweight bout: Takeya Mizugaki vs. Chris Cariaso

Cariaso defeated Mizugaki via unanimous decision (29–28, 29–28, 29–28). - I completely disagree with the decision in this fight. It was close, no doubt, but I believe that Takeya Mizugaki edged out the win by his take downs.

Middleweight bout: Riki Fukuda vs. Steve Cantwell

Fukuda defeated Cantwell via unanimous decision (29–28, 30–27, 30–27). - Simply put, Steve Cantwell should not be in the UFC. He had a few moments of success, but for the vast majority of the fight, Riki Fukuda looked outstanding and he bashed Cantwell with a continuous barrage of punches.

Bantamweight bout: Norifumi Yamamoto vs. Vaughan Lee

Lee defeated Yamamoto via submission (armbar) at 4:29 of round 1. - The fight was fairly even but Vaughan Lee clinched it with his smooth submission. Norifumi Yamamoto has been a bust in the UFC.

Lightweight bout: Takanori Gomi vs. Eiji Mitsuoka

Gomi defeated Mitsuoka via TKO (punches) at 2:21 of round 2. - Gomi looked average in the first and was controlled a bit on the ground by Eiji in the first. Gomi looked like his old self in the second as he TKO'ed Eiji. He says he wants to bring the Lightweight title to Japan, but at his age, I doubt he will be able to beat the new age young studs in the division.

Main Card (PPV)

Lightweight bout: Anthony Pettis vs. Joe Lauzon

Pettis defeated Lauzon via KO (head kick & punches) at 1:21 of round 1. - Wow, out of nowhere Pettis landed an awesome kick. It looks like he will be set up as the next challenger to the new champion Henderson.

Featherweight bout: Hatsu Hioki vs. Bart Palaszewski

Hioki defeated Palazewski via unanimous decision (29–28, 30–27, 29–28). - Hioki doesn't have the best striking, but after this fight, no one will question his ground game as he absolutely controlled his opponent there. He could fight Aldo next, or perhaps a fight with Bara to make the number one contender could be good.

Middleweight bout: Yushin Okami vs. Tim Boetsch

Boetsch defeated Okami via TKO (punches) at 0:54 of round 3. - Boetsch got dominated in the first two rounds. As with most fighters that come off a fight with the champion Anderson, it looked like Okami was well on his way to a dominate rebound win. All that changed in the third round as Dana White best described it, Boetch went balls to the ball and assaulted Okami with everything he had. It worked and he now puts his name in the mix.

Welterweight bout: Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Jake Shields

Shields defeated Akiyama via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27). - This was a fairly close fight. Sheilds won, but looked unimpressive part of the time. With four losses in a row for Akiyama, his future in the UFC is in great jeopardy. Not one will deny that he is an exciting fighter. Noe one will deny that during his time in the UFC, he has fought only the toughest competition. I think he will get one more shot at his new weight class at 170.

Heavyweight bout: Mark Hunt vs. Cheick Kongo

Hunt defeated Kongo via TKO (punches) at 2:11 of round 1. - mark Hunt seems to age like wine. Not that long ago, he had a losing record in MMA. Now he beat a perennial contender in Kongo and inserted his name into the mix.

Catchweight (211 lb) bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Ryan Bader

Bader defeated Jackson via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27). - A horrible few days for Jackson it has been. First he weighs in overweight by six pounds. Second he loses a long awaited fight in his forming stomping grounds, Japan. He said at the post fight press conference that he injured his knee and decide to stay in any way. He says that he has a good couple of fights left, and will probably try to retie with a win. While it wasn't pretty, Bader won the fight. He used his wresting to control Jackson and looked impressive in that aspect. In time, Bader could challenge for the title, he just has to tighten up his striking and obviously his submission defense.

Lightweight Championship bout: Frankie Edgar (c) vs. Ben Henderson

Henderson defeated Edgar via unanimous decision (49–46, 48–47, 49–46) to become the new UFC Lightweight Champion. - This was a close fight. They both landed many strikes and I believe Frankie got more take downs. Henderson did more damage though as was visible by looking at the two. Frankie believes he won and is looking for a rematch. I doubt he will get it though as in his four previous fights he fought the same two people back to back. Henderson will most likely get a fight with Pettis, and with it a chance to avenge one of his two losses.

Movie Review - Moneyball

I'm not a fan of baseball. I don't like it at all. Period. While my perception of baseball didn't change from watching what has to be one of the best modern sports films, I certainly will wonder now when I see a game of all the background politics and stuff that goes behind the scenes. See, Moneyball is a near perfect film. It has great, believable acting. From the scouts to the players and the managers, every one is on point. The film also has a good sense of humor. It made me chuckle more than most comedy films. It is also shot very nicely. The film has great dialog and is a real fun time. I didn't like Billy's daughter though as she was 1: Ugly and 2: Had a annoying voice. But beside that I enjoyed the film. I wasn't blown away or anything but it is hard to deny the overall quality of this film.

The Verdict - A modern sports film classic. - ***1/2

Review of BRHS TV on Friday

I was very displeased with the quality of the BRTV Friday program this weekend. My main reason for disliking it was the lack of content. No BRHS speaks. That is for many of the viewers the highlight of the show, usually. It started at 8:06 and ended at 8:08. This is obviously less running time than the show usually is. I really look forward to Friday as it means that BRTV will usually run over a tad and will mean there will be less time for second period. I am though enjoying the American sign language of the week. It helps that the clip[ replays the entire week so I can have further practice. I feel that over time, I will be able to talk to (through sign) to a person that uses sign language. I just have to find one first. I also like when the BRTV episode runs over as it allows for more time for me to chat it up with people and the like. Also there seems to be no males on the BRTV Friday episode. Now I know that two guys host the sports show, but it seems unfair have no males be represented on the "big" show.

Movie Review - THX 1138

I saw the directors cut of this film, which has replaced some of the original footage or parts of it with more modern computer created special effects. The big problem there is, to be blunt, it looks like shit. The quality of the CGI is on par with sci-fi channel B schlocks. But I will try to disregard that. The film is impressive for its time and is visually bland at parts, which is the point. The film takes place in a futuristic dystopian society and is about some humans who escape the controls of their time and try to have emotions. It really looks like it takes place in the world it is trying to create. Otherwise, there are some mediocre parts like the acting of characters. Even when the main character and his lover are off the emotion suppressants, they can't show any emotion. Robert Duval wasn't that good here. There is a great film here, somewhere. This film has some great moments. The rest is trash. The acting is a mixed bag with both the main players and the supporters seeming on their game one scene and being horrible the next. Specifically, Penelope Cruz stinks as does Jason Lee. Tom Cruise is pretty good overall, as is Kurt Russel. Cameron Diaz is OK. The rest of the cast, the supporters all suck, especially the tech support man .The film has a pretty decent soundtrack. Also, I will note that it has a great club scene. I'm just a sucker for those types of scene's, dark, lights flashing and the mystic electronic music pumped up. The cinematography is pretty good. The problems lie in the acting and the messy handling of the material. The film is about Lucid Dreaming at its core and doesn't exactly treat the material right. I want to like this film a whole lot more than I actually do. Parts of it are fantastic, and others are horrible. I will have to see the original Spanish version to see which is better (the original is reported to be better).

Gerry is a very different film. I have never seen anything like it, and I wouldn't look forward to seeing anything like it again. I thought some previous films I had seen were slow. Boy oh boy was I wrong. This film has both some of the slowest and longest shots I have ever seen in film. It tells the story of two friends who call each other Gerry getting lost in the desert. That's it really. The film has minimal dialog too. I didn't enjoy half of my time watching the film. The other half of the time I was marveled by the film. The strong point is the cinematography. The cinematography captures some amazing shots of the desert. If the cinematography wast so good, I probably would have bailed. To sum it up, I would recommend this film to only more seasoned movie viewers. It is a tough film and will try even the most patient viewer. That being said, it is a rare film (style wise) that I'm glad I saw.

I want to like this film more than I already do. There are some funny moments. Other jokes fall flat. The film should be noted for it's surprisingly good cinematography. I guess I'm just used to films in this genre having basic cinematography since that is never really the focal point of the film. But as I said, this film is different. The acting is good most of the time. The film flips back and forth between serious and silly all the time. A lot of the time the two modes are taking place at the same moment. I would have given this film *** but for a few reasons. Number one, the film makes note that the main characters wife wanted to leave him since he lost who he was. They never show him before hand, so we are supposed to believe this on blind faith. It made me unable to have any sympathy for his wife. It made me not like her which took away from my enjoyment of the film. Also the film in my opinion ended with a blandly. Other wise this was an enjoyable film.

Well, well, well. What a fine film we have here. It's more than just a coming of age comedy. The drama here is great too. The film is about a group of high school seniors and their last day in high school or rather, what happens after. The entire cast is fantastic. It is filled to the brim with great character acting and future stars. It must be noted that the soundtrack is filled with some rock and roll classics that really up the film. The film takes a rather accurate look at how many of my peers will be feeling in a couple of months, and me too. It is to say the least, an interesting film. In the end though, we only live once, so why not have a good time while we're here?

Movie Review - Existenz

Existenz is a very fun science fiction film. It is full of twists and turns that will keep you guessing to and past the very end. With a solid cast, every one from the supporters to the main players are up to par. It takes place in the future and is about the world and her unlikely bodyguard having to evade some people that wish to have her killed. As I said before, the film is full of twists, so that is all of the plot that I will tell. You have to pay attention not because it is hard to understand the film but because it moves at a fast pace. The special effects are very well done and get a good degree of disgusting when needed (as with many of the directors films). While not well know, it is a solid choice for a fun and entertaining time.

This is a film that manages to impress 85ish years later. It has some stunning sets, especially for the time. A fantastic score. The acting is something of time time, specifically the style that was always present in silent film. Most of the characters overact, but that as I said it is expected.There is no complete version of the film as some of the reels have been lost or are just to banged up to include. This version tells the story though without any flaws. Some of the title cards are simply screen shot like as that I assume is the best they could do with the found footage. Overall, the film is a technical marvel and should be seen by any sci-fi fan.

Waking life could be considered nothing more than a collection of interviews with philosophers and other people of note in animated form, loosely connected by a story. It could also be considered an inventive and experimental masterpiece. I like this film, but it will put some people off. It your looking for characterization, a moving story, you will be disappointing. As I said before, at times, the film is nothing more than some incredibly intelligent human beings telling you a theory in their complicated language. The overall story consists of a guy trapped in the dream world, trying to get out. To be honest, I'm still very confused about much of what some of the people in the film talked about. The topics range from philosophy, science, politics, dreams, human interaction, the list goes on. It is a very challenging film, I won't lie. If you don't give it your full attention, you will be lost in a few minutes. If you can pull through, you will be treated to an intelligent film.

I think back to all of the films I have seen and I can think of very few that are as flawless as this. It has a very well rounded cast. Every one is fantastic. I have seen a decent amount of films from this era where the lead female is nothing more than a pretty face with horrible acting. This is not one of those films. The actors are able to say all of their lines with some much emotion and realism even when you know such a tale as this is unrealistic. This film has, obviously, some fantastic dialog. You hear people today say these memorable lines without even realizing it came from this film. The film is funny, it is dramatic, it is moving. It is everything you could want. Enough with reading this blog post. Go and see this film (and again).

My goal for 2012 is to see 366 films (it's a leap year).
34 films this year so far. I'm a little behind.
I hope Key & Peele stays around for a second season. Despite not being good all the time, when they hit it, they hit the bulls eye. They are so out there and make a great comedy team. They would make great silent film actors (If they let blacks act in film then. I don't think so. I have seen half a dozen or so silent films and I don't remember seeing any blacks in them. Right after though with some talkies they are present, usually in minor roles like butlers. It's too bad, most of those black actors were pretty decent and probably could have acted in some great films in main roles if America wasn't like it was back then).
I think I will shave my toes soon.
Some day I will get some tattoos. Nothing too crazy. A little here, a little there. Perhaps a Troll Face on my bicep (not that I have a lot of muscle there to flex).
I have not really been watching WWE recently. I still like professional wrestling, it's just that WWE got stale. Perhaps when the old guard finally retires (Triple H, Jericho, Kane, The Undertaker, ect), when Cena finally turns heel, and when WWE brings up some interesting people from FCW, then I will watch it again. Maybe.
I can now do 5 pushups.
I worked out a week or so ago and I was sore for 3 or so days after. Boy oh boy am I out of shape. Not that I ever was in shape.
Specifically, I would like to get some muscle, but still look like I do now (thin). Also, I would like to get rid of the fat from my legs. I have very jiggly thighs. But most importantly, I need to work on my cardio, of which I have none.
So far, Casablanca is the only 4 star film this year that I have seen. I gave Happiness 4 stars before, but I changed it to 3 and a half.
I'm glad that I don't read TMZ anymore.
The women from mob wives are so disgustingly ugly.
Full Metal Jousting looks pretty cool.
Good Deeds looks award worthy.
I think that at some point in the future I will get serious about my aspirations on lucid dreaming.

Movie Review - Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

This is a silly, stupid, and sometimes amusing film. It tells the tale of two slacker high schoolers and how they travel in time to assemble some famous people in order to not fail their history final. The acting is what you would expect of this type of film, over the top and cartoony at times. It is a feel good film that will not challenge you in any way. It strives only to tell a simple story. The time travel aspect was handled decently enough. The film is a comedy, but I rarely laughed. The humor in the film is simply not what I tend to laugh at. Beside that, this is a serviceable enough teen comedy.

The Verdict - Decent for what it is. - **1/2

Movie Review - Daft Punk's Electroma

This film is not for every one. At times it can be slow. Very, very slow. Crawling slow. It probably could have been made as a short film. It also has no dialog which could put off some viewers who have not sat through silent films before. What it does have is a stellar sound track that works magic with the cinematography. Those who stay around will be treated to a little known gem. As I said, this film has no dialog. Daft Punk's Electroma is a purely visual and audible experience. It tells the story of two robots trying become human and the after math of a failed attempt. The quality of the film is surprising considering it is the first film by the Daft Punk duo. While a tad self indulgent, this film is worth the time for any one looking for a film that is both different and still very, very good.

The Verdict - A great directorial debut for Daft Punk. - ***1/2

The Giant Gila Monster

Despite having good acting, this film falls flat. It goes on way too long. The special effects are laughable with a actual lizard playing the monster. It is a B movie, so I guess that was expected. The film offers no scares or thrills. It is too bad as the film did a decent enough time with its characters, their development and all. Not much to say other than don't bother.

The Fatal Hour

A decent film, The Fatal Hour is a film that has Boris Karloff playing a Chinese man. Yup. It isn't bad the film per-say, its just not that good. The cinematography is average for the time. As are the characters with the gangsters and the sassy girl journalist. Everything is just average, sometimes even below average. I'm pretty apathetic towards this film as it didn't rub me the wrong way or impress me in the least.

The Verdict - Meh, if you like these types of films, why not? - **

Dead Men Walk

Dead Men Walk will not blow you away. It is not original. It is in fact very cliche at times. It is however a well made film. The film follows the basic vampire formula set up by older films like Dracula where the people must find where the Vampire is hiding and destroy him before he takes more lives. With good acting and dialog to boot, the film is a fun time. Like I said before, you won't find the least bit of originality in the film, but you will find what I believe to be an underrated film.

The Verdict - A solid and simple vampire film. - **1/2

The Mad Monster

This is a film that offers little entertainment. It is never in the least bit scary. The acting is decent at best, with the role of the monster especially bad. The makeup of the monster is especially bad. I have seen films that were made before it do a way better job in creating a were wolf. It has unimaginative and generic cinematography of the time. It never drew me in in the least. It was made in a time where these types of movies were being pumped out for profit without much thought on the actual quality.

Riddle defeated Martinez via split decision (28–29, 29–28, 29–28). - This was a very interesting fight as Riddle was fighting a 155er on short notice. Riddle will never hold the belt, but he will continue to fight in the UFC if he puts on entertaining fights like this. Martinez get major props for fighting up a weight class. At 155, he should be much more impressive.

Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Chris Cope

Brown defeated Cope via TKO (punches) at 1:19 of round 2. - Cope was doing OK until he got rocked. I would not be surprised if he got released. Matt Brown gets two in a row here.

Bantamweight bout: Alex Caceres vs. Edwin Figueroa

Figueroa defeated Caceres via split decision (28–27, 27–28, 28–27). Caceres was deducted two points in the second round for repeated kicks to the groin. - Caceres definitely won the fight, but it was two inadvertent groin kicks that made him lose. I disagree with Herb taking away two points, one point yes, but two is overkill.

Featherweight bout: Dustin Poirier vs. Max Holloway

Poirier defeated Holloway via submission (mounted triangle armbar) at 3:23 of round 1. - Poirier looked outstanding here. He deserves a step up in competition and will have a bright future in the UFC. So will his opponent Max Holloway who made his UFC debut last night. At only 20 years old, Max will have plenty of time to build himself up.

Main Card (PPV)

Middleweight bout: Ed Herman vs. Clifford Starks

Herman defeated Starks via submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:43 of round 2. - After a surprisingly close first round, Herman did what he does best and choked out Starks. After three impressive finishes, Herman should face a top 15 guy. Clifford looked much improved in his striking and is well on his way to being a threat with his already stellar wrestling and athleticism.

Bantamweight bout: Renan Barão vs. Scott Jorgensen

Barão defeated Jorgensen via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27). - Renan had his toughest fight in his career and passed with good grades as he took out the perennial contender in Jorgensen. Renan is now on the short list of contenders at 135. In the near future, he will be fighting for the belt.

Welterweight bout: Josh Koscheck vs. Mike Pierce

Koscheck defeated Pierce via split decision (28–29, 29–28, 29–28). - This was another close, close fight. Pierce may be one of those guys that doesn't get the recognition that he deserves. He has consistently fought tough competition and while not always winning, he is always in the fight. Koscheck now has two wins in a row at 170. He could decide to stay at his long time home or move up to 185 like he pondered last year.

Heavyweight bout: Roy Nelson vs. Fabricio Werdum

Werdum defeated Nelson via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27). - This was a fairly one sided affair, still, there is a lot that can be taken away from this fight. Nelson once again showed that he may be the toughest man in the UFC. He doesn't always win, but he is so impossible to finish. A move to 205 would serve his career greatly. Werdum looked great in his return to the UFC. With two or so more wins, he could definitely be fighting for the title.

Interim Welterweight Championship bout: Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit

Condit defeated Diaz via unanimous decision (48–47, 49–46, 49–46) to become the new UFC Interim Welterweight Champion. - This was a fairly close fight. Condit employed his game plan of moving away and picking his shots while not getting caught and cornered against the cage for Diaz to pummel him to pick up the win. Condit will be a test for GSP as he has some great striking and a solid ground game. Also, GSP will not be 100% when the fight, having come off of a ACL injury. Of course, Condit may have to fight another contender while he waits for the champ to recover. Diaz was a little sour to say the least. If Diaz really retires, it will be a lose for every one except him. He is a great talent and could put on some fantastic fights with the other contenders at 170.

I have seen a few stop motion films. Those films include "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "Mary and Max" and a few others. $9.99 isn't as good as either, but it isn't bad. It's definitely not for kids. The film takes a look at the residents of an apartment building and their individual lives. Each person is from a different walk of life in a different stage in their live's. In terms of the animation, it's not that impressive, but it's not bad either. There are some laughs to be had, but for the most part, this film didn't get me on any level. It has the right idea, but it just couldn't execute it as good as it could have. Clocking in at less than an hour and a half, it is a simple, if at times displeasing film.

Movie Review - The Crow

The Crow is a simple action film about revenge. It's cast plays the larger than life comic book characters perfectly. The film moves at a brisk pace while always being entertaining with its stylish action. Brandon Lee was impressive as the hero. This film could have opened a whole lot of doors with his performance, but he never got to see the finished film as he died in gun accident on set while wrapping up filming. The film is stylish with its music, mood, and cinematography. The filmmakers really brought the comic to life here. Not much to complain about.

I have never seen a movie like this. It pulls no punches in its portrayal of a trio of sisters and those around them looking for happiness. The cast in this film is truly fantastic with every one playing their messed up individual perfectly. It is both a drama and dark comedy that I wouldn't necessarily say makes light of topics like wanting to die, and pedophilia, but it does present them in a non judgmental, humorous way. In any other film, you would want the person that wants to kill themselves to stay alive. In any other film, you would want the pedophile to suffer. This is not any other film. For some people, it may be too much. It tackles some topics in a surprising, controversial way. In the end the film is about a group of people and their pursuit of happiness. It is a film that many people should see, but many people are not ready to see it.

After having viewed both Scarface's, I thought it would be good to couple the reviews as a comparison. Both films tell the story of a young up and comer in the criminal underworld. The original takes place in Chicago during the time of prohibition, so the criminals aren't trafficking cocaine, but booze and guns. Both films follow the same basic plot of the rise and fall of Scarface. The remake adds in the whole foreign angle. The original does the story quicker with out that angle. The original also has a sense of humor, unlike the remake. Both films have good cast. Both films are good in the cinematography department. Overall, I feel the original is a marginally better film. It tells the sotry quicker and is simply more fun. I didnt like the remake. I found it to be boring and slow. After having heard so much hype about it over the years, I was expecting some sort of masterpiece. What I got was a film that took a little too long to get to the point. It was predictable, but both are so I can't really knock it there. The remake takes a more serious look at the criminal world while the original is a simply more enjoyable, fun film.

While a tad uneven, Ghost Town is a very sweet, enjoyable, and at times very funny film. The film starts out as a simple enough comedy but as time goes on, the laughs decrease as the romance and the drama increase. With surprisingly good acting for each parts, you will care about every one involved, even when they are assholes, which is frequent. It is simple in its execution, never blowing you away but always commanding your full attention. A good soundtrack used at the right times only adds to the emotions. The film is shot in NY and uses many famous buildings and landmarks. All in all, a surprisingly enjoyable film.

Johnson defeated Beltran via KO (punches) at 4:24 of round 1. - Lavar looked very impressive in this fight. Beltran is know for being hard to put away and Lavar took out Beltran impressively. This guy is one to look out for. Beltran on the other hand has some decisions to make. Should he stay at heavyweight and be a lower level fighter or should he move down to light heavyweight and try to re-surge his career.

Lightweight bout: Michael Johnson vs. Shane Roller

Johnson defeated Roller via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). - Michael looked to have improved his overall game again in this fight. While it wasn't overly impressive, Michael is headed in the right direction.

Featherweight bout: Charles Oliveira vs. Eric Wisely

Oliveira defeated Wisley via submission (calf slicer) at 1:43 of round 1. - Oliveira looked outstanding in his featherweight debut. he looked in great shape and will probably spend some time at this weight class until he eventually moves back up t 155 after having finished growing.

Featherweight bout: Cub Swanson vs. George Roop

Swanson defeated Roop via TKO (punches) at 2:22 or round 2. - Swanson looked good tonight and was able to negate the reach and height advantage of Roop. It was a very impressive knockout with the mouthpiece flying out.

Heavyweight bout: Mike Russow vs. John-Olav Einemo

Russow defeated Einemo via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27). - A rather boring fight. Russow got the win by laying on top of Einemo for 15 mins. I'm not sold on Russow as he has a job as a police officer so he is not fighting in MMA with his entire being.

Lightweight bout: Evan Dunham vs. Nik Lentz

Dunham defeated Lentz via TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 of round 2. - Very fun fight. Both men threw leather and it was too bad that the fight had to end with the doctors deciding that Lentz could not continue due to his eye. I would like to see these two fight again.

Main Card (Fox)

Middleweight bout: Demian Maia vs. Chris Weidman

Weidman defeated Maia via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27). - Both men looked rather unimpressive in terms of cardio. Weidman has an excuse though as he took this fight on 11 days notice and was probably no where near his usual physical peak. I'm very disappointed with Maia though as he had no excuse.

Middleweight bout: Chael Sonnen vs. Michael Bisping

Sonnen defeated Bisping via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28). - This was close fight. Sonnen will now fight Anderson in the summer. Bisping will have to climb back for a title shot, but I think he is at the top of his game now and I expect it to be a short climb.

Light Heavyweight bout: Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis

Evans defeated Davis via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45). - Phil Davis simply wasn't ready for someone of Evans caliber. He was able to hang in there but never amount any good offense. If he takes some time off and works on his game, mostly his striking, he should become much improved. Evans will finally get a match with Jones in what is one of the better grudge matches in recent UFC history.

Movie Review - Creepshow

Creepshow is a horror anthology film. It tells five stories that are loosely connected. All of the stories offer up both campy horror and some comedy. None of them will have you scared to open your eyes. None of them will have you laughing hysterically. All of them will entertain you just enough to watch them. All around, the acting is par for every one, with Stephen King even playing the main role in one of the stories. The film is a bit of a homage to classic horror comics so there is a bit of a cartoony feel the the characters and the horror itself. The special effects are something of the time and are entertaining. I couple of years ago, I watched a more modern take on the horror anthology film sub-genre called Trick 'r Treat. That film is better in both its horror, comedy, and overall fluidity and relationships between each story. Creepshow though is a decent movie that you will enjoy to an extent.

Movie Review - Aliens

While not perfect, this is a sequel that is just as good as the original. It does though, offer something very different. Unlike Alien which is a horror sci-fi film, Aliens is a action sci-fi film. What it lacks in character development, it more than makes up for it in the exciting and suspenseful action. This film is not subtle like the original. It's, as I said, strait forward in all of the new characters. The acting is good for what it is. The cinematography helps greatly in making the action top notch. I would have liked to see certain developments like the expansion of the android character, but most of my qualms on this film are greatly impacted by me personal taste. All in all, Aliens is about as good an action film as you'll get.

Movie Review - RAN

I went in expecting a classic Japanese war film, but what I got was a theatrical telling of the death of a family. And this film is very theatrical. Two of the characters are over the top, but that's the point for those two. The acting otherwise is fine. The cinematography and the art direction are the highlights. Countless shots are breathtaking. This is of curse a Japanese film, so the jester will put off some with his annoying parts. Also of note, the film has some fantastic charging scenes with opposing armies, but you never see any good close up combat. The film regulates the action to a few single strikes and mostly shots of gun fights and arrows. While a tad slow at parts the film manages to tell a very sad, depressing tale.

I find comedy films harder to review than movies from other genre's. People have difference senses of humor, and movies often reflect that. Some films are dark comedies while others are buddy films filled with poop jokes. I didn't laugh a lot while watching the film which was mostly due to it not being my style of comedy that I like. That's not to say there weren't parts that I liked, and even chuckled at. Its a very well made coming of age film that is full of that 80's flair. It is full of vibrant energy, and while as I said, I didn't laugh, I enjoyed my time. I was impressed by Alan Ruck in this film. I'm sure others will laugh much more than I did, so you should watch this film.

Movie Review - Plan 9 from Outer Space

Commonly referred to as the worst movie of all time, Plan 9 from Outer Space is a horribly made movie that has some charm. It should go with out saying that the acting is horrible. The editing, as with all bad movies, is crap. The film tries to make use of footage of Bela Lugosi before he died, and fail miserably. The film tries so hard, you can almost see a decent movie here. There would just have to be a new cast and a way, way bigger budget. The small budget leads to perhaps what the film is most well known for, its low quality special effects and sets. So much of this film is laughable, from the dialog and the intro and outro by The Amazing Criswell, you are sure to have a fun time

Movie Review - The Terror

Though the acting isn't half bad, The Terror remains a fairly un-entertaining film. The cinematography at times is bad. The film never manages to get a scare. Also, the love triangle, or should I say square, makes no sense in one of the edges. Nicholson' who is the main player, falls in love with a girl based solely on her good looks, which, for a simpler time in cinema would be OK, but is not tolerable for the age this film was made in. Sure you see the same thing happening today, but those situations in film today are usually done more realistically. Also, the film throws in a very unneeded twist at the end, though I do understand why they did it. It isn't a horrible experience, just not a very rewarding one.

The Verdict - Not worth your time unless you are a major Jack Nicholson fan.- *1/2

Movie Review - The Beast of Yucca Flats

Definitely one of the worst films I have ever seen, The Beast of Yucca Flats is horrendous in every aspect. The acting, if you can call it that, is laughable. The film employs some sort of weird dubbing where the characters are never shown talking. There is always something obstructing their mouths from the camera, but the voice plays so the viewer knows they are supposed to be talking. The quality of the voice acting is horrible. The cinematography is generic and at times, badly handled. It should go without saying that this film has bad editing, but I will say it anyway. The sound effects like gun shots are badly done, with them rarely coinciding with the actors. Also, one of the many nagging parts is how the actors seemed to be brain dead. When your supposed to shoot a gun, pull the trigger. Don't just give the gun a badly done recoil and call it a day. The story drags on for a film under an hour. It is also executed badly, with a scene taking place at the beginning that has no reason to even be in the film. There is a voice over, which is the only part of this film that I enjoyed. It's not good though, don't get mistaken. The voice over blandly spits out useless, obvious information. It's actually pretty funny. Laughing at this film is the only way you will enjoy it. But even then, you will be asking yourself if it was worth it.

While not scary, this films isn't particularly horrible. The beginning starts with a warning that says if you die while viewing the film from it being so scary, the film studio will pay for funeral. The film never lives up to its promise. Its attempts to scare are juvenile and simply bad. How any person would think that the attempts to scare in this film would work is beyond me. The acting is a bit mixed, with some delivering uneven performances, while other are just average in their roles. The film has some noticeable editing jumps, which don't particularly make sense and hurt the story flow. All in all, the film isn't horrible, its just not in the least bit good.

At a trim 60 minutes, this film is a quick piece of crap. Every thing about this film is bad. From the acting to the editing to the costumes of the giant leeches, everything is horrible. The question is, is it one of those so good, it's bad films? I think so. Despite having no redeemable qualities, the film is short and very fun, that is, very fun to have a laugh at. It's worth the time to see at least once. There is so much horribleness in this film. The story is badly executed. The characters are unrealistic. The dialog is cheesy, and not funny when it is supposed to be. Like I said, you will have a lot of fun, just not how those involved with the production wished you to.

Movie Review - Strangers on a Train

Strangers on a Train is a near perfect thriller. Almost every one is on par. I did find I was a little dissatisfied with the hero at first, but as time went on, I started to root for him. The villain though, is just so well played that I almost wanted to root for him. The film has some fantastic dialog, and the story is executed perfectly. It is shot to perfection, creating the adrenaline feel needed in every thriller. The cinematography succeeds in getting your blood running, making you wonder how the story will unfold. All in all, the film is almost flawless. It is exciting as can be. It is now my favorite Alfred Hitchcock film, unseating Vertigo.

Movie Review - The Man from Nowhere

While this film had its moments, it ultimately failed to gain any sort of emotional reaction from me. The best parts would definitely have to be both the beginning scene and the final fight, as both are wonderfully choreographed. Another scene that stands out is the entire club sequence. Besides that, the movie isn't that good. The acting of most actors and actresses is mediocre. I was however impressed by one of the younger of the two gangster brothers, and the little girl. The pathetic attempt at an easy emotional reaction was the main reason why this movie isn't that good. A few good parts, just not enough to warrant a viewing of Korea's highest grossing film of 2010.

The Verdict - Watch a better revenge story, like Kill Bill. - **

Movie Review - 13 Assassins

I have seen very few samurai movies. But I get the feeling that many of them are similar i8n plot. This movies has the same plot structure as most samurai and western films. A bad guy is torturing people and the like. Some samurai must band together to stop him. Not much character development goes on. The first part of the movie is slow and very generic, setting up the premise and introducing the characters. It's the second part that is really good. A massive, long battle of you guessed it, 13 samurai against a corrupt lords men numbering beyond 200. The battle scene is fantastic. There is some deeper parts here that I did not catch onto, since I know nothing about Japanese lore. The film does have a few striking moments, particularly the reveal of one of the girls that the corrupt lord tortured by cutting off all of her limbs. All in all, a bit generic, but solidly made.

Best Film - Drive - Drive is as close to the complete package as you can get. It has the acting, the cinematography, the music, the story. It has it all. It is thrilling. I could right more and more, but my words will never be able to explain just how good this film is.
Best Actor (Lead) - TIE: Ryan Gosling (Drive)/Edward Norton (Fight Club) - Ryan Gosling was phenomenal as the silent driver in the film Drive. He conveyed so much emotion with a simple stare or glare. Edward Norton was as equally phenomenal as the mentally unstable protagonist in Fight Club. His part had him talk a lot more, and he played it very well.
Best Actress (Lead) - Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Original) - Never once during the film did I question if this character existed. I watched a interview with Noomi afterwards and I was a little sad with the fact the character was just that, a fictional portrayal. The language barrier was no problem here. Noomi Rapace absolutely stunned me.
Best Actor (Supporting) - Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Bastards) - I was very impressed by his performance as a Nazi. He played his role like a predator who messes with his prey, toying with them before going in for the kill. My favorite part with him would have to be the beginning when he does what I mentioned above with a farmer who is hiding a Jewish family in his house.
Best Actress (Supporting) - Melissa Leo (The Fighter) -As much as I dint really care for the film, I was amazed by her performance here. Melissa Leo made me hate her in this film. She portrayed the delusional mother perfectly. Nothing but praise for her performance.
Best Acting (Cast) - The Social Network -While I though this film was overrated, I can not deny the acting in this film by the entire crew. Everybody is spot on in their respective portrayals. Each character is believable. There are few good people in this story. There are no bad people either. You wanna hate somebody, but you can't because they all have their very human reason for what they did.
Best Comedy Film - Burn After Reading -While not laugh out loud funny. This comedy film manages to be very entertaining due to the actors portrayal of stupid, messed up people. It's unlike any other comedy film in that it is violent and in the end, a bit of a tragedy. The Coen brother have made comedy masterpieces before, and while this isn't one of them, its a sure fire fun time.
Best Horror Film - Session 9 - This was basically a fight for the award between Session 9 and The Orphanage. Session 9 is simply a scarier movie. I was freaked out during parts of it, dreading what would happen next. I was always guessing, looking forward to the story unraveling. It is very unknown, but is definitely worth the time.
Best Sci-Fi Film - Source Code - While not exactly a perfect film, Source Code is a thrilling trip into a world where one man can assume the identity of another, in that mans memory. The acting here is pretty good. The sci-fi elements are the best par though, as the film does a good job explaining the technical aspects of what is happening. As I said before, this film is one of the better, under appreciated sci films of this new age.
Best Drama Film - Fight Club - I had heard the hype, but never got around to seeing this film. It was well worth the wait. With all around good acting, a sense of humor and a very well done story, this film was so close to being my pick for the best film.
Best Action/Adventure Film - Enter the Dragon - Definitely in my top five action films of all time. Definitely the top martial arts film I have ever seen. This film tells the basic story of revenge and a martial arts tournament. The premise has been beaten to death since, but this film is still one of the best.
Best Fantasy Film - Brazil - Brazil is a dream like adventure. It made me fall in love with the characters. It told an epic story of love, betrayal, and injustice. With a stellar cast, the film makes multiple political points as well, something most fantasies, even the best ones, don't do. With its British sense of humor, the film is a real treat that many people have missed out on.
Best Foreign Film - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Original) -This film was the last film of 2011 that I viewed. Before watching that film, I was going to give the award to The Orphanage, which is a solid film in its own right. TGWTDT blew that right out of the water. Some of the best acting in a foreign language film I have ever seen. The characters are so real. The story is well done. Simply fantastic.
Best Thriller/Suspense Film - Drive - (See best film).
Best Black and White Film - The Unknown - Both short and strait to the point, this film is an example of bare bones being better than dragging out a film. It tells of a armless knife thrower with some secrets who falls in love with the carnival owners daughter. A love triangle forms with the carnival strong man, and the knife thrower must decide at what lengths he will go to get the woman he loves. Acted classically be Lon Chaney, the film is a classic in both the horror and silent film genre.
Best Silent Film - The Unknown - (See best black and white film).
Best Exploitation Film - Planet Terror - Exploitation films are known as being bad. They have bad acting, bad dialog, bad special effects, and are in many cases, insulting or even repulsive to some people. This send-up the the genre is not bad, not in the least. It still has corny acting, mediocre dialog, bad editing, bad cinematography, the whole deal. The film is not in the so bad its good category. This film is good because it takes what people loved about the original exploitation films and made a tribute that combines them all. You will not find a better guilty pleasure film than this.
Best Independent Film - Winter's Bone - With a stellar cast of virtual unknowns, Winter's Bone, adapted from a book, is one of the more impressive movies I have seen during this season. It's portrayal of the meth ridden sections of the south is so gritty, if that's the right term. The acting in this film is so realistic, mostly because many of the people in it are from that area, with some having never acted before in movies. It's scary, bot not a horror film. It's a film that shows not all movies need big budgets to succeed.
Best Sets/Art Direction - Solaris (Original) - This was a tough one. There were a lot of contenders for this award. The original Solaris though, takes the cake. It's depiction of a futuristic space station is reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey. You barely see the outside, but its the inside that is the real beauty. Though you see the same parts of the space station over and over again for the majority of the time, they never lose their luster.
Best Makeup/Costumes - Thor - Despite the film itself having some flaws, the costumes do not have a single one. Coupled with some good art direction in it's own right, the outfits worn by the actors in this film that portray gods are very spectacular, and very pretty.
Best Cinematography - Drive - As soon as the movie starts, you can see it's unlike any other film. The cinematography, coupled with superb lighting combine to make one of the most visually appealing films I have ever seen.
Best Score - Drive - From the songs produced by Cliff Martinez, to the songs by other artists like "Nightcall", "Oh My Love", and "A Real Hero", the Drive soundtrack virtually perfect. It, as all good soundtracks do, assist in setting the tone. This score does it perfectly. The synth feel is in full effect in all of the songs, helping to create one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen.
Best Special Effects - The Invisible Man - While others films I have seen this movie viewing season have had more advanced, more spectacular, and all around more dazzling effects, there is a reason I chose this film for best special effects. This film was made in 1933. For its time, it was groundbreaking. The special effects used here stand the test of time.
Worst Film - White Zombie - There is nothing good about this film.

Top 5 Science Fiction Films

When I look across the list of my favorite films, I noticed something. A lot of those films, maybe around 20ish percent, are Science Fiction films. I have always loved them, sci-fi films that is. Unlike those of the fantasy genre, they represent a reality the is actually conceivable, that is actually liveable. They often are more than laser guns and action. Science fiction films tend to ask question many other genres don't. So here you have it, my top five films from my favorite genre of film (In order). (Click for trailers)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

I really like the first part of the film. I can't say the same for the rest of the film. It started out with some great action. Than the film delved into the slow process of finding the horcruxes (I known that's not how you spell it, too lazy to check). That part of the film is incredibly, incredibly slow. It really drags on. The characters even comment on it at one point about how they have been on this long journey and they have barley found anything. Besides that, the film is fine. It's acted very well. Can't really complain there. the film also has a sense of humor too. if only, if only it wasn't so slow at certain parts. Of course it leads into the stellar, action packed second part, you just have to endure it and you will be rewarded.

The Verdict - Worthwhile for the second part. - **1/2

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

Going in, I knew this movie had a lot of praise. I don't see why. It was by no means bad. In fact, the film was very well made. The acting was good acting all around. The characters were, generic. There was some laughs. Some top notch action rounded out a very enjoyable film. I just don't think that it deserves the massive amount of praise it has been receiving. I will note that there was a very pretty lady, one of the most attractive mixed woman I have ever seen. Check her out (Paula Patton).

The Verdict - I wasn't blown away, but I did enjoy my time. - **1/2

Zodiac

Zodiac is a film based off of the book that is based off of the famous killing spree by the Zodiac killer. The case was never solved, and has remained a hot topic of debate. David Fincher's style is as always, visible. The colors all look similar in his films. They are too, like this one, all expertly shot. It also dawned on the after watching this film that David Fincher's seems to only make really, really long films. Now regularly, I would be able to enjoy a long film, especially by one of my favorite directors. This film though has a few glaring flaws. While acted nicely, one of the characters, a major one, really has way more screen time than he deserves. This extends the film too much in terms of time. A small squabble, but the next one, not so much. The film, rightly so, is very taxing on ones ability to pay attention. The case itself was very complex, as is the movie. I found the simple moments focusing on the characters to usually be more interesting than the many, many moments of the main characters trying to find out who the killer was while spitting out all this legal jargon and case information. Beside that, the movie is pretty good.

The Verdict - A bit messy, but still worth a go. - **1/2

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

To be honest, I don't see the hype or praise in this film. I have never really been into westerns. Maybe that's why I don't think this movie is all that. It's well made, no doubt. Beautifully shot too. The action is well done. I was displeased with some of the action though. I guess the main reason that I never really got into the movie was because the lack of me liking the characters. The good is not good. Clint does a very bad job here. I think this is the character he was famous for playing in multiple movies, but I don't like it. His voice sounds laughable at best. The Bad is better, but not great. The Ugly is the best of the three. I would rather have not spent almost three hours watching this movie. It's not as bad as I'm making it out to be here, but just know that you'll be in for a long movie with little reward.

The Verdict - A decent enough time. - **1/2

Enter the Dragon

While it has bad acting and bad editing, this film is still very, very fun. It is with out a doubt the best martial arts film I have ever seen. I has many flaws that would make a normal movie bad. The corniness is so out there in some parts it's laughable. But that is part of what makes this film so fun. The action is, of course, solid, culminating in a very memorable and much parodied final fight. The cinematography was different than most other martial arts films I have seen in that is had a lot of close ups and POV shots during the fights. This film makes me want to see the other films starring Bruce Lee.

The Verdict - A must. - ***

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Unlike some other long films I have seen recently, this one kept my attention till the very end. It takes the book and tells the story perfectly, unraveling parts at the perfect moments. There really is two parts to the film. The first part is like a long introduction to the main players. It isn't until what I call the second part where our two main heroes finally meet. Good acting all around, especially Noomi. She was fantastic in this film. she totally embodied the character of a vengeful rape victim with mental problems. The cinematography is also good, creating the thrillerish feel needed in the high intensity scenes.

One Body Too Many

I chuckled to myself a lot while watching this film. The acting is well done and very funny. The witty dialog is the best part of the film. The man who plays the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz is the hero of this film. The lighting though was very bad. I know that the point in many of the scenes was to be dark and creepy, but some parts were so badly lit that I couldn't enjoy what was happening. I feel that the ultimate payoff of "who did it" in this whodunit was forced ad not as good as it could have been. Ultimately, this was a very enjoyable comedy that could have been a little shorter or quicker.

The Verdict - A funny classic - **1/2

White Zombie

This is the first full length Zombie film. It's also the worst Zombie film I've ever seen. It has horrendous editing in both the visual and sound departments. The use of music is bad. The editing leads to confusion. At multiple points I was wondering what was happening. This was not due to the story being confusing, but to the fact that the editing made the story seem all over the place. The acting was also bad. Noby was good in this film. This film was fairly short, but it felt so incredibly long. There is nothing good I can say about this film.

Main Card

Featherweight bout: Nam Phan vs. Jimy Hettes

Hettes defeated Phan via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-26). - I had never seen Hettes fight before. Boy was I in for a surprise. Hettes absolutely dominated Phan the entire fight. He implemented his game plan to perfection. This kid has a big future. I would like to see him fight a striker who can keep the fight standing, as that is where I suspect he has a few holes in his game.

Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson

Gustafsson defeated Matyushenko via TKO (punches) at 2:35 of Round 1. - Gustafsson took care of the veteran quickly. It wasn't as impressive as fellow 205 standout Bones, but still very impressive. I think he should fight a one or two more top 15 guys before fighting a top 10 guy. By the end of the year (2012), if Gustafsson can keep his win streak alive, he could be in title contention.

Hendricks defeated Fitch via KO (punch) at 0:12 of Round 1. -I was shocked with this fight. My mouth gaped opened. Nobody expected this fight to end that way. Johny Hendricks should still fight one or two more top guys before being in title contention. Jon Fitch will have a long road back to title contention.

Lightweight bout: Nate Diaz vs. Donald Cerrone

Diaz defeated Cerrone via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28). -Going in, every one, including me, though this would be a close fight. What we got was a one sides beat-down. It is all the more impressive when you take into consideration how good Cerrone has look this past year. Something was off about him last night. Diaz looked a heck of a lot like his brother did against Penn. He will have a big 2012, as long as he can improve his wrestling.

Heavyweight bout: Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem

Overeem defeated Lesnar via TKO (strikes) at 2:26 of Round 1. - Lesnar looked out of it last night. Overeem took advantage and delivered an even worse beating than Lesnar got in the fight with Cain. The though of Overeem and his powerful kick boxing/muay thai verses Dos Santos's speedy boxing is a striking fans dream match-up.

Movie Review - Invisible Ghost

Another film starring Bela Lugosi, I enjoyed this more than Black Dragons. It is about a slew of murders at a man's house, his wife who left, and how they all fit together, eventually finding out who the murderer is. The film stares a colorful cast of characters, with entertaining acting all around, except for a few instances. I was left a bit displeased by the parts where the murders happen because they come off as comedic, definitely not what they were supposed to be like. This was due to the acting of Lugosi in these scenes while in a trance. Like other films similar to it, Invisible Ghost does the trick of having twins, one of them dieing, and then the same actor returning the play that identical twin. The film surprised me by its quality.

Heavyweight bout: Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem - Brock Lesnar By TKO. - There are a lot of variables to this fight. How is Overeem's mental state? Supposedly, his mother is in failing health. He is currently suing his former managers. Also, will he experience octagon jitters even though he has fought on big stages before. How is Lesnar's mental state. He has been out for a very long time, will that affect him? He is also having legal troubles with some hunting charges. Is his ego abused since the beating he took in his last fight? Stylistically, this fight is perfect. Both men's weaknesses is their opponents strengths. Has Lesnar Improved his striking since his last fight? How will Overeem deal with the wrestling prowess of Lesnar. No one knows how this fight will go, but that's why it's so highly anticipated.
Lightweight bout: Nate Diaz vs. Donald Cerrone - Donald Cerrone By Unanimous Decision. - Cerrone is on a roll. He has fought four times this year, winning all of those fights in impressive fashion. He started the year as an after thought, but now is on the cusp of a title shot. After having some less than stellar time spent at welter weight, Diaz returned to 155. He recently took out Takanori Gomi, who may be past his best days, but is still a very respectable opponent. Both of these guys are as tough as nails, and I foresee multiple highlight reel finish attempts form both men. I would love to see a finish, but since both are so resilient, I doubt it. Fight of the night for sure!

For a very long time, Fitch has been discriminated against by not being given a welter weight title shot even though he is the number two welterweight in the world. This is due to his incredibly boring fighting style. Hendricks is a young, surging contender. Both have a lot on the line, but Fitch has much more to lose.
Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson - Alexander Gustafsson By TKO. Matyushenko is the respected veteran. Gustafsson is another prospect at 205. This is a test for bot men. Does the young man deserve the step up in competition? Does the old man need to think about retirement?
Featherweight bout: Nam Phan vs. Jimy Hettes - Nam Phan By Unanimous Decision. Not much is known about Hettes, other than the fact that he is undefeated with all of his wins coming by submission. Impressive, to say the least. He will be fighting against the lose some, win some Phan. Phan is always game, but his record is very spotty. I think after getting revenge in his second bout with Garcia, he has improved enough to make a slow run at the title.

Movie Review - Black Dragons

This is a film about one Nazi's revenge during the time of WWII. He had previously helped a select group of people (the black dragons), by surgically changing their appearances from Japanese men to that of top American business men. They double cross him, and for it, they must pay. The film is a movie of the time, with the word Jap thrown around freely. Bela Lugosi is fine as the Nazi, and the black dragons are fine as well. The main role I had a problem with was the short part of the leader of the black dragons. I think it was an American who was playing a Japanese person, but I can't be too sure. The ethnic get up he had distracted, but not enough from his horrible acting. Beside that there isn't much to complain about. The movie isn't that good, but for what it is, it is fine

Ip Man 2, in my opinion, is like most sequels, worse than the original. I have read up on the film, and it seems the majority of people think this film is better than the first. I have to strongly disagree here. The characters are less fleshed out and way less interesting. I have seen this scenario many times before. The whole story is very generic, even more so than the original. Some characters had no reason for even being in the film. The fighting sequences, I think, are way less exciting than those in the original. It's not to say this film is bad. It's not a bad film, it's just not as good as the original. It's not even close.

Movie Review - Into The Wild

Into The Wild is based off of a book that is based off of the real life situation. The film follows life after college for a young man who practices transcendentalism. It examines his journey across the US and the people he meets. The cinematography is mostly beautiful, capturing some shots of nature that are mesmerizing. Also, the acting is top notch with a slew of colorful charters to keep you entertained. The story could have been a little shorter as it seemed to drag a bit here and there, for me at least. The story is a tragic one that ultimately asks the question of how far would you go to achieve true transcendentalism. The editing is noticeably crisp. I would recommend this as one of the better drama films I have seen in a while.

The Verdict - A drama/biography film for the ages. - ***1/2

I have a lot of great memories from High School. Here are the ones I'm going to miss the most.

Me and Jeff Stein flipping the bird to each other every time we see each other between classes.
Spending time with the fellas (what a sissy I am).
The only two fights I saw: The 3 V.S. 1 black chick fight and the fight freshman year on Halloween involving the pregnant bumblebee.
The football team winning.
Running to take a poo sophomore year, since the first bathroom I went to had no paper towels (it was a rough one).
Liking people.
Trying in gym.
Being able to go to the library junior and senior year without a hassle.
Giving Thomas a tissue when he needs it (frequently).
Singing Bohemia Rhapsody with the fellas.
Telling my self at the end of every year that I will work out that summer and return a physical specimen.

5 More Favorite Directors

David Fincher - Favorite Films: Se7en, Fight Club - Fincher in my opinion is one of the more under-appreciated directors in recent years. People know his films, but they don't seem know his name like Cameron, or Nolan. From more mainstream films like the Social Network to biographical epics like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, he makes films that all retain the same ultimately dark demeanor, but take on different subject matter. Both Se7en and Fight Club bring to the screen stories with a edginess that have unlimited re-playability. Se7en is a story about two men on opposite ends of their detective careers trying to find a serial killer with a taste for flashy kills. Fight Club is about one man creating an underground fighting ring while his mind becomes undone. Both films are filled with twists and turns. Though recently, none of his films have had the same impact of the two listed above, he hasn't faltered and still makes some very entertaining films.
Hayao Miyazaki - Favorite Films: Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle - Miyazaki is known state side by some as Japan's Walt. He has headed not just the films I listed, but numerous more animated classics. Princess Mononoke took a more adult tone with its violence. The film is a nonstop thrill ride. Howl's Moving Castle is another romantic masterpiece. And Spirited away would arguably be his crowning achievement. The film blends the best animation I have ever seen with a classic story. Miyazaki continues to make films even in his old age, and each one seems to be a hit, having something that most other animated films don't have. The are like magic, able to bring you into another world and amaze you while telling emotional stories. When he passes, the world will lose one of the top Japanese directors of all time.
Robert Rodriguez - Favorite Films: Sin City, Planet Terror - Robert Rodriguez crafted what some would say as the best comic book adaption, in terms of retaining the original material and feel. I would have to agree. Sin City is basically the comic brought to life. Other superhero movies purge parts, for better or worse. Sin City took the smart route and kept what made people love the books intact. The film is filled to the brim with the style and beautiful look of the comic book. Planet Terror is a tribute to exploitation films. It is full of corny, campy dialog. The gore is so over the top its laughable. It is without a doubt the perfect guilty pleasure movie. By mainstream standards, its not that well acted, has bad special effects, bad editing, its simply bad. But that's the point. Planet Terror, in my opinion, is the better of the two grind-house films. He will without a doubt make many more entertaining films.
Zack Snyder - Favorite Films: Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead - Zack Snyder has made some good films. He has also made some bad ones. His good films overshadow the bad ones though. Dawn of the Dead is arguably better than the original. It is rare for a remake/reboot to be better than the original. I feel in that specific case, I feel it is. It takes the original premise and makes it more modern and edgier. I love Watchmen. A lot of people didn't really care for the film. It split audiences. I for one loved it. I is unlike any other superhero film, in a good way. It didn't play the same old simple formula. Many of the heroes were bad too. It is a film that made you ask questions instead of blasting you with action, though the film had its fair share. Zack Snyder is poised to direct the reboot of the reboot of the Superman. If any one can bring superman back to his former glory, its Zack Snyder.
The Wachowskis - Favorite Films: The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded - Though these guys haven't made a film up to par with the first Matrix film, it's hard to knock them for that. The Matrix is a film that had an unmeasurable influence on the American film industry. The Matrix films, even though they decreased in quality with each sequel, remain very important. The Matrix films created some of the, perhaps the best action sequences of all time. They weren't just some mindless action movies. I can watch the Matrix films over and over again and still get goose bumps throughout. The duo has also adapted the film V for Vendetta to the screen, creating a mixed bag of a film, but one that had more of an impact in the world that they could imagine.

Movie Review - Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem

Interstella is basically a long music video. It is played to Daft Punk's Discovery Album. I could not get this film from the library so I had to piece together the film from the individual music videos on YouTube into a playlist. The story is very basic and uninteresting. The animation can be pretty a few times, but for the most part it is lazily animated (If you have ever seen a older Japanese animated show like Dragon Ball, then you know what I mean). There is nothing redeeming about this movie other than the always stellar music by Daft Punk. But even then, this movie isn't worth your time.

The Verdict - I like Daft Punk. I don't like this film. - *1/2

Science fiction films like these today seem like a rarity. Lets get the very little bad out of the way. The acting is very good, but a little corny at some points. I wished the film had delved a little further into the science fiction part, as there were many possibilities to be had. I would consider this a prime candidate for a sequel, but I doubt one will happen. Now the good, basically everything. The film has very good acting all around, despite the occasional misstep I said before. The action is top notch. The film manages the story in a way so that it is not confusing. Every thing is fresh each time even though the story keeps going back to the same spot. The shots in this very are very exciting. At a very good pace, you will never be bored with this film!

The following three films all star Lon Chaney as the main character. They were all on a 2 disc DVD set featuring some of his best films.

The Unknown
This movie is very short, very simple, and very fun. The campy acting manages to make you actually care for the main character, even though he is demented and despicable. The cinematography is surprisingly good. This film is very comparable to the film Freaks, beside the fact that the director did both. Both films are around n hour and feel more like a television episode. Had they been extended, they would be bogged down since there would be just extra fluff. The sets have that same cooky look from Freaks. I would say this film is one of the better silent films I have seen.

The Verdict - A classic horror film where the fun holds up even today. - ***

Laugh, Clown, Laugh

Contrary to past viewings of Lon Chaney, this film featured absolutely no horror. It was a drama/romance film. It dragged on too long here and there. At certain points, the overacting is laughable. But where this film does succeed is for most of the time, the acting is very good. The film tells a very simple story better than most modern movies. As with The Unknown, the sets and cinematography are very well done.

The Verdict - Not his best, but still very good. - **1/2

The Ace of Hearts

Despite dragging on a few points, the film manages to maintain an intensity and wonder of "what will happen next"/ "what will he do feel" to it. The acting is a little over dramatic. The story is also unrealistic, but manages to make that a very little problem. The film, as with many Chaney films, has a love triangle. And with most Chaney films, he does not get the girl. It's how the situation plays out that is the best part.

The Verdict - Flawed, too long, but still fun. - **1/2

Thor is a generic, but decently made film. The special affects in most parts are very, very pretty. The film also has a fun sense of humor. The characters are all very cliched, but are well acted, but a bit campy. I did find some of the acting very bad though (Loki). The story is very generic and told that way. The fight scenes are average at best. I enjoyed my time, but I doubt I'll be watching it again for a while. I only watched this due to The Avengers coming out next year.

Movie Review - Trollhunter

Trollhunter is very comparable to the Blair Witch Project. Both have this mockumentay style of cinematography. Both contain mostly amateurs acting. And both fail to truly be something special. While that's not to say Trollhunter is bad, it just isn't as good as it could have been. Some moments are a drag, while others are very entertaining. The film is a little too long. I was very bored at multiple arts, totally uninterested in what was going on. The special effects are pretty mediocre by today's standards, but get the job done. I guess one reason i never really got into the film was because of the acting. None of the three students are likable. The Trollhunter plays his part decently, but is very dry most of the time. I would say wait for the American remake of the film. If Hollywood is smart, they can actually improve on the original here.

Movie Review - The Social Network

The Social Network took many liberties with the actual story on how facebook was founded. But I believe that was for the better. The film moves between the different points in the past from Harvard to the lawsuits. At a very brisk pace, I was never bored. The collection of young actors here may be the best I have ever seen. The film makes you like a lot of the characters, even though most of them are depicted as assholes, through the acting. The movie has some funny moments too. The editing was also very noticeable, but in a good way when it would flip between different moments in time. The music to top it off was perfect and captured each scenes emotion on spot.

Jung defeated Hominick via KO (punches) at 0:07 of round 1. - Not much to say since the fight ended so quickly. Jung has again established himself as one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC.

Welterweight bout: Claude Patrick vs. Brian Ebersole

Ebersole defeated Patrick via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). - Ebersole won a very close decision here. It wasn't pretty, but I think this shows Ebersole can fight against a grinder and win.

Light Heavyweight bout: Tito Ortiz vs. Antônio Rogério Nogueira

Nogueira defeated Ortiz via TKO (strikes to the body) at 3:15 of round 1. - I winced when I saw the constant body shows that Ortiz was taking. He says here still has one more fight on his contract, which he will try to go out on a win from. Little Nog looked good and beat one of the biggest names on his record so far.

Heavyweight bout: Frank Mir vs. Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira

Mir defeated Nogueira via submission (kimura) at 3:38 of round 1. - This was a very entertaining fight with Mir almost going to sleep at one point, at least it seemed that way. After a good scramble, Mir broke some sort of bone of Big Nog's. Mir could fight for the title with one more win.

Light Heavyweight Championship bout: Jon Jones (c) vs. Lyoto Machida

Jones defeated Machida via technical submission (guillotine choke) at 4:26 of round 2. - After a first round that saw Jones look a little tentative, he went in and submitted Lyoto into unconsciousness in round two. Jones can now not be denied the respect that he deserves. He is finishing fighters that other top 205er's have gone the distance with, in devastating fashion. He will face the winner of Davis and Evans after having taken a well deserved vacation.

The Fighter is an overrated movie, but is still very good. You wont see anything new here, but its still done very well. The movie contains some very good acting, which is the highlight of the movie. Besides that, the cinematography is average at best, as is every thing else. You won't lose anything by watching this, but you wont gain much either.

Movie Review - The Adjustment Bureau

The Adjustment Bureau is a very interesting film. On one hand, I enjoy it, on the other hand, I feel unfulfilled. The acting is fairly good all around, but is the best with the two leads. The cinematography is just good enough. The dialog is very well done, and entices me to want to learn more about The Adjustment Bureau. But I never did. The film has an incredibly interesting idea it is based on where free will is a lie because our lives and some of the choices we make are controlled by the very organization in the title. There is a plan that their leader has written out for every one in the world, and it is their job to make sure it pans out. The story doesn't really explore The Adjustment Bureau as much I would have liked, which is too bad as it is a very interesting premise. It's supposed to be part thriller, but I was never really tensed up. The fantasy and romance parts though, are done very well. I wish this film was edgier, and dared to be more than it was, but it didn't. It is still a very fun time with all that in mind.

This movies tries to tug at the hear strings, but is so generic and tries to take the easy rout to do so. Cue gushy music, cue cliched, corny lines, cue a puppy, yadda yadda yadda. This movie has horrendous acting, which is disappointing considering Harrison Ford is the lead. The characters are very unrealistic. It also has very, very bad cinematography. There are some generic shots. while other shots were just badly set up. It's so bad that you notice it. The film offers nothing interesting in terms of plot. The plot is very predictable. It's not the type of film that you would watch and enjoy because it is so bad. This was an utterly bad film. It tries to be a moving drama, but is very unwilling to take the slightest chance in making it memorable.

Remembering Partice Oneal

Patrice O'neal was unlike any other stand up comedian I have ever seen. He would never back down. He was fearless. He would admit when he was wrong. But most importantly, he would make you laugh. He wasn't like the stereotypical Black comedian. He wasn't generic. He told the truth. I estimate that I have listened to hundreds of hours of Patrice from his stand up comedy, his appearances on O&A, and his appearances on Tough Crowd. He never got his due, which is sad considering he is funnier and more real than most of the mainstream hacks that rule comedy today. If I ever muster up the guts to go onto a comedy stage, I would try not to emulate his comedy, but to emulate his fearlessness and truthfulness. Here are some of my favorite Patrice O'neal moments.

Bantamweight bout: Louis Gaudinot vs. Johnny Bedford

Bedford defeated Gaudinot via TKO (knees) at 1:58 of round 3. Bedford absolutely dominated the highly touted Gaudinot. This could be mainly due to Bedofrd's massive size advantage. It was very impressive, as you could see Bedford has improved dramatically since the show.

Lightweight bout: Tony Ferguson vs. Yves Edwards

Ferguson defeated Edwards via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28). This was a very close match-up. Ferguson was able to stand and bang with a very respectable veteran. Both men put on a show, and I look forward to seeing them both in the future. Especially Ferguson, as he is a very big lightweight with some great promise.

Bantamweight bout: T.J. Dillashaw vs. John Dodson

Dodson defeated Dillashaw via TKO (punches) at 1:54 of round 1. John Dodson overcame a size advantage to knockout the bantamweight favorite on the show. Dodson has incredible speed, athleticism, and a very entertaining personality to boot. He is without a doubt a future star. Whether it is in the bantamweight division or the soon to be established flyweight division is still up in the air.

Featherweight bout: Diego Brandao vs. Dennis Bermudez

Brandao defeated Bermudez via submission (armbar) at 4:51 of round 1. Both men were rocked at points in the fight. First it was Brandao who rocked Bermudez, then it was the opposite. Brandao was able to survive the shot and lock up a nasty armbar. He is a very dangerous fighter who could be a future champ.

Middleweight bout: Michael Bisping vs. Jason Miller

Bisping defeated Miller via TKO (strikes) at 3:34 of round 3. I was very disappointed with Miller. He gassed out and simply gave up once the going got tough. The first round wasn't too bad for Miller as he was able to tie up the Brits legs and ground control him. The second round and third was all Bisping as he destroyed Miller with many, many shots. With one more win, Bisping could fight for the title.

I have never really seen many Martial Arts movies. I have always thought of them, along with westerns to be generic and the like. This film on Bruce Lee's master is mostly no exception. It has a generic storyline, but handles it very nicely. The fighting scenes are very exciting. They are some of the best I have ever seen since the matrix films. This movie should be seen just for the action alone, it's that good.

It would seem to be a trouble to review dubbed movies, but that is not the case. At first the dubbing was noticeably bad, but in time, you can work it out, and even ignore the mediocre quality. You can tell the acting is good even with the horrible dubbing. The cinematography is surprisingly beautiful and is one of the highlights of the film. This is the first film made by Christopher Nolan. And considering it was made on only $6,000, this movie is pretty impressive. With surprisingly good acting and a clever plot, this film kept me at attention the entire time. The film is told in a nonlinear style, but manages to remain not confusing at all. It is fun to see how much Christopher Nolan has changed since his first film. The talent is clearly evident in this low budget movie.

At a trim 75 minutes, this movie is a short, horrible movie. It is once again, one of those so bad it's goo films. But that praise only rings true for half of the time. The cinematography is horrendous in some parts. One of the recurring jokes is so not funny. The other jokes, especially the inner thoughts of the agent are very funny, it's too bad that they were so few in number. When the monster movie parts come into play, they are exactly as you would except them to be, horrible. This movie stinks in every way, but that's what makes it so fun.

This movie treads in the "it's so bad, it's good" area. The acting is horrendous. Granted, the movie was originally in Italian, so there had to be English dubbing, but it's horrible. The editing is noticeably bad. The effects, for it's time, are mediocre. This movie looks like it is from the early age of horror movies, yet it's from the early 60's. The film also goes on way too long and fails to give any frights

Movie Review - Machete

Machete is the 5th film that I have seen in the grind house style. It's is my least favorite out of all of them. The film drags on way to long. The film has some of it's best moment's on both ends with a very boring middle section. The acting, even for this type of film, is bad at many points. The film tries, but fails in many of it's storyline twists. With all of the negatives, there are some positives. When there is gore and violence, its pretty sweet. The film will also have you laughing at many points. Besides that though, I won't be giving it a second viewing any time soon.

This list was really hard to make, especially once ) got down to the top 15. These are my favorite UFC fights for many reason's. Some I'm just glad for the winner, others, it was because the fight was a war. Either way, here are my top 10 favorite UFC fights in order (1 best, 10 least).

Movie Review - Faster

Faster is a very uneven movie. The good does out weigh the bad though. Some of the acting is really good, while the rest of it is mediocre and some of it even laughable. The film is quick, strait to the point and pulls no punches. It is able to handle telling three separate stories that all intertwine, but falters a bit with when the "twist" and philosophical talk. The good moments are really good, while the bad moments are bad, but not that bad. The film, to its credit, is very ambitious for an action revenge movie. It wants to be more than just a strait action movie, and succeeds, a little.

The Verdict - A mixed bag, but ultimately a painless viewing. - **1/2

Catchweight (158 lb) bout: Shamar Bailey vs. Danny Castillo

Castillo defeated Bailey via TKO (punches) at 4:52 of round 1. Shamar looked mediocre in this fight. Castillo out wrestled the wrestler and got a good win. A plus, he had the most entertaining post fight interview by having good comedic timing and telling off Shamar for missing weight..

Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Seth Baczynski

Baczynski defeated Brown via submission (guillotine choke) at 0:42 of round 2. It was a very close first round. Though the finish was only a matter of time considering Brown's track record for losing by them and Baczynski's track record for winning by them.

Catchweight (141 lb) bout: Miguel Torres vs. Nick Pace

Torres defeated Pace via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–27). Nick Pace, who weighed in over 6 pounds past the class limit was out classed in this match up. Not to say Torres looked stupendous either, he just controlled the fight with his long reach.

Lightweight bout: Gleison Tibau vs. Rafael dos Anjos

Tibau defeated dos Anjos via split decision (28–29, 29–28, 30–27). A very close fight between the two Brazilians. Both always seem to teeter on the step to the next level of competition.

Middleweight bout: Tom Lawlor vs. Chris Weidman

Weidman defeated Lawlor via technical submission (D'Arce choke) at 2:07 of round 1. Weidman looks better and better with each fight. His submission skills are very slick. He is without a doubt a future title contender. I want to see him fight a man with better wrestling defense, as that will be a true test for Weidman.

Preliminary Card (Televised)

Bantamweight bout: Michael McDonald vs. Alex Soto

McDonald defeated Soto via KO (punches) at 0:56 of round 1. Soto had no business being in the ring with McDonald. McDonald has proven that it is time that he takes a step up in competition.

Light Heavyweight bout: Ryan Bader vs. Jason Brilz

Bader defeated Brilz via KO (punch) at 1:17 of round 1. No surprise here as Bader gets back on track against an over matched opponent.

Main Card

Light Heavyweight bout: Stephan Bonnar vs. Kyle Kingsbury

Bonnar defeated Kingsbury via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–25, 30–27). While not the most exciting fight, Bonnar got to showcase his ground game. Kyle needs to work on his.

Welterweight bout: Martin Kampmann vs. Rick Story

Kampmann defeated Story via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 29–28). Kampman finally comes out on the right side of a decision. Both men are top contenders in their divisions.

Bantamweight bout: Urijah Faber vs. Brian Bowles

Faber defeated Bowles via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:27 of round 2. Faber looked better than ever in this number one contender bout. Cruz will be in for a tough match up in his next fight.

Middleweight bout: Wanderlei Silva vs. Cung Le

Silva defeated Le via TKO (knees and punches) at 4:49 of round 2. Silva lost the first round, but once Cung Le gassed, the old Silva came out and steamrolled Le.

Light Heavyweight bout: Maurício Rua vs. Dan Henderson

Henderson defeated Rua via unanimous decision (48–47, 48–47, 48–47). This was with out a doubt one of the greatest MMA fights that I have ever seen. It was a back and forth, closely contested match up. Both men almost got knocked out at multiple points as well. Both men were exhausted at the end of the bout. This fight is why I watch MMA.

Movie Review - Winter's Bone

This film creates a very realistic portrayal of the lives that are led and are affected by the southern meth trade. The cinematography is so good at points that you could take a snap shot of some shots and frame it on your wall. The acting is realistic and defiantly one of the best all around casts I have seen in a while. It took a bit, but once the film got me, it took me on a thrilling ride.

Movie Review - Carnival of Souls (1962)

The editing is bad. How do I know that, I visibly noticed it, granted, it's a B movies so it is given a little slack. The acting is mediocre all around. Granted, this was made on a budget of around $33,000 (and 1962 $ to boot). The cinematography is very well done though. Being a horror film, it has a few creepy moments that were probably really scary for it's time. It's supposed to be a cult classic, but I fail to see what is so special. It wasn't a horrible ride, just a very underwhelming one.

Movie Review - Fracture

I wanted to like this movie. I really did. Sadly, the acting is mediocre, except for a stellar performance by Anthony Hopkins. He always delivers. I was disappointing by Goseling's performance. I think the movie failed to build hi up as a legitimate threat to Hopkins character. They spent the beginning of the film making Hopkins out as a genius mastermind. When they introduce Goseling, he is a legitimate , young, hot shot, legal wiz. He then spends the majority of his time (joking here) holding his hands up in the air going "huh". I think that is the script faults though. The cinematography is pretty good, on the flip side. The moments where Goseling spends time with his love interest are the most interesting moments with Goseling. This move could have been good, the pieces never were up to par.

Movie Review - Watchmen

There was never anything like it. There is nothing else like it. There will never be anything like it again. The Watchmen was in developmental hell for years. It was tasked with adapting to the screen one of the (some say the) greatest graphic novel of all time. Most fans were uneasy. Could it really be done? Could the perfect comic book be translated into film form? The short answer is yes. Sure, the movie takes some liberties with changing some aspects of the story, but for the most part, no major changes are made that have that great of an impact on the original story. The story had to be "Hollywoodized", that is, made a little more mainstream. Throw in some more action, simplify the story a bit, and you have the film version of Watchmen.
The film is so saturated with style, but not the meaningless kind. Besides the occasional misstep, all of the actors are fantastic in their roles. The film moves at a very solid pace. It's a tad long, and that's with consideration to the major subplot and all of the other bits and pieces subtracted from this version. I have seen this film multiple times since it came out. It's one of those films that I love more and more each time I see it. An article I read recently on IGN that listed the best ever comic book films made a very plausible point. The author said that this film could be like Blade Runner, or any other cult film for that matter. Despite initial mixed reactions, some of the best films of all time have only gotten the recognition that the deserve once they aged. I'm a believer in that Watchmen will eventually join that select group.

Movie Review - The Fly (1986)

The remake of the Fly is not scary. That being said, ti does provide more fun than horror movies do. The acting works well, as both of the main characters were dating in real life at the time. The real treasure in this movies is ti's take on the traditional story of a scientist gone mad. The make up is some of the best I have ever seen,and it really looks like one would think a human, fly hybrid would look like. The movie also brings out a few laughs. This is what splice could have been.

Movie Review - Lars and the Real Girl

Lars is a comedy-drama about a man's love for a sex doll that never really made me laugh. That said, the movie is better in the drama and romance department. Every one is good here in their roles. The movie moves at a rather slow pace, my opinion though. This could have turned into an over the top joke, but the film treats the materiel seriously. I would suggest viewing this since it may move you, just don't expect to laugh.

This movie is cheesy, trashy, has bad acting, the list goes on and on. But of course, that's how it's supposed to be, a tribute to exploitation films. The film is very short at under an hour and a half. The acting is proper for the movies. Cheesy line after cheesy line is fired off. The gore and blood is off the charts. You don't have to think hard with this film. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. Just make sure you're not riding shotgun.

Henderson defeated Guida via unanimous decision (29–28, 30–27, 30–27). This fight won fight of the night. This was a fantastic fight, Even though Guida was over matched here, he should be proud as he left it all in the cage and even threatened Henderson with submission. Henderson will next take on Frankie Edgar, possibly at the UFC card in Japan. Guida could have a fight with Melvin Guillard next.

Main Event

Heavyweight Championship bout: Cain Velasquez (c) vs. Junior dos Santos

Dos Santos defeated Velasquez via KO (punches) at 1:04 of round 1 to become the new UFC Heavyweight Champion. Junior won knock of the night with his win. Cain looked a little heavier and tentative, possibly due to ring rust and surgery. I have no doubt that he will be back on the title hunt very soon since he is regarded as one of the hardest working individuals in MMA. He could face the loser of Lesnar/Overreem, or a rematch with Cheick Kongo. Junior Looked outstanding and won the fight with relative ease. He will face the winner of Lesnar's next match.
